KUCHING: Belaga District is ‘being looked after by a clerk’ at Kapit District Council though it is one of the biggest contributors to the state’s coffer.
The local community and their assemblyman Liwan Lagang find the idea distasteful and difficult to swallow.
Liwan said there was no excuse for Belaga not to have its own district council as it had been one of districts in the state that contributed much to the state’s coffer....

SIBU: Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) health inspectors are on the lookout for Aedes mosquito breeding grounds daily, particularly at high risk residential areas.
Its chairman, Datuk Tiong Thai King, cautioned yesterday that culprits would be compounded.

KUCHING: The Local Government and Community Development Ministry will look into the possibility of setting up Belaga District Council.
Acknowledging that Belaga is very far from Kapit town and it may be difficult for Kapit District Council (KDC) to dispense effective services to Belaga residents, minister Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh has agreed in principle that Belaga should have its own council.
“Ideally, we hope every district could have its own council to ensure effective public service and administration of the district,” he told The Borneo Post yesterday....
